Kyudo (Japanese Archery) – The Way of the Bow at Florida Budokan
Kyudo, the traditional Japanese art of archery is a historic and respected Japanese martial art. At Florida Budokan, students train in the general style (yosoku) under the official membership of the Great Japan Kyudo Federation. Our Seibukan Kyudojo is the only one of its kind—it is the sole Kyudo dojo in Florida, built to preserve and share the enduring practices of Japanese Archery.
Practicing Japanese Archery with Awareness
Japanese Archery emphasizes body alignment, controlled breathing, reigi, and a calm-centered mindset to action. Every class incorporates zazen-style meditation, helping practitioners cultivate presence, tranquility, and clarity. Unlike contemporary archery, Kyudo views each release as a reflection of inner harmony.
Kyudo Training Schedule
• Kyudo for all students – Sunday 2:00pm
• 6:30pm Thursdays – Beginner Kyudo
Students are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior and may stay 30 minutes after class for self-study under the guidance of senior students.
Karate and Shotokan Karate – Traditional Striking Arts at Makoto Dojo
Karatedo at the Florida Budokan organization is delivered using authentic Shotokan training techniques, under the guidance of the IMAF (International Martial Arts Federation) and the GIMA-HA Shotokan-Ryu Kyokai of Japan. These powerful affiliations link students to historical martial heritage, including Tokugawa Shogunate descendants.
Shotokan Karate for Body, Spirit, and Character
Shotokan Karate training emphasizes kihon (basics), prearranged sequences, and partner practice. Classes integrate strength training with character building—honor, patience, discipline, and bravery.

Iaido – Japanese Sword-Drawing Art at Kashimon Dojo
Iaido is practiced at the Kashimon Dojo of Florida Budokan through the tradition of Toyama Ryu Iaido under the Toyama Ryu Iaido Battodo Renmei (TIBDR). Our dojo is recognized as the first accredited Toyama Ryu branch in the Americas.
Iaido – Precision and Control
The art focuses on exact techniques for drawing, striking, and sheathing. Students also train in Batto do techniques, through the Zen Nihon Batto-Do Renmei (ZNBDR), expanding their understanding of Japanese Swordsmanship.

Kenjutsu and related sword arts represents a long history of samurai practice. At Florida Budokan, this includes the full spectrum of techniques: formal dojo conduct, ancient cutting methods, cutting practice (tameshigiri), and a knowledge of correct timing, spacing, and intent. Students practice moving with mental stillness, cultivate mental calm, and honor the heritage.

Florida Budokan Dojo Guidelines
The dojo is available half an hour before and after class for individual practice or review with senior students. To maintain traditional standards, Florida Budokan is open to the public only during scheduled training hours, workshops, and events.
Volunteer Spirit
As a educational nonprofit, Florida Budokan thrives on volunteer participation. All students are asked to assist with events or dojo maintenance annually, helping maintain our dojos, and supporting fellow students.
Tuition and Membership Information
Our tuition is designed to be affordable while supporting quality instruction.
• $85 per month – regular membership
• Discounted tuition $75/month for students and veterans
• Additional family member: $50/month
• Annual membership and dojo insurance $65/year, payable in March
Students participate in cleaning and maintenance, teaching respect and community values.
Arching Oaks – Home of Florida Budokan
Florida Budokan is located within Arching Oaks Japanese Art and Cultural Center, the largest zoned Japanese cultural center in the United States, spanning 20 acres.
The grounds include:
